95 sport 4x4 - The door lights stay on after the ignition is turned off. I thought it was delayed lighting but an hour later they were still on. Also the door ajar light is lit all the time. Someone mentioned WD40ing the switches on the doors and the tail gate, which I did. but they still stay on. Should I replace the switches or could the problem be electrical?

i id this sunday afternoon after buying a can of wd 40.. on my 2002 light and door ajar was on for a while... squirted the lock assembly inside the door also thru the handle and also the catch i closed the door and wow it worked....

First, to tell which door is the problem, Sit in the driver seat and have someone open each door, one at a time. When the "good" doors open, you'll hear a chime. The door at fault will not cause the chime, as the computer already knows that it's "open."

I know the sensors at the tailgate and hatch are easy to fix (replace). Not sure about the doors, though.

Let me know which is the problem and i'll see if i can help further.

Actually, i don't think that the door ajar dummy light should stay lit when off. You may have a different problem. Explorers do have a interior light delay so that they don't drain your battery, but i've never seen the dummy light stay on after turning the vehicle to 'off"

check your dash dimmer wheel.

The sensors in the doors are an easy fix...
although it is like a $15.00 part that the dealer will charge you almost $250.00 to replace.. because of all the labor to tear the door apart..
My brother in law had replaced 2 of them for me at his school a few months ago,and it was about $15.00 for each switch..
he told me a buddy he works with at his school had that problem and didn;t want to wait and had the dealer replace the switch and that is the amount that they charged him $250.00 which is a little bit crazy if you ask my....
