2001 Sport Trac 4WD
2001 Sport Trac with power locks and key remote. Started having every problem possible with locks and handles in driver/passenger front doors. Driver outside handle is broken (spring), already have new one ready to install. Both doors only unlock from pulling inside handle (passenger key works, hard to do sometimes). Driver door does not lock 80% of the time no matter what I try. Driver door key cylinder is broken - key will not lock or unlock the door.
Obviously I need to fix all of these problems right away...I have a lot of money into this truck. I have never done car locks before and don't know exactly what I need, dont need, and should upgrade. I know I should probably order Ford OEM parts or better, not the cheap stuff.

Can anyone tell me what parts I will need for sure, so I can start by ordering them? My main sources are anything online, anywhere cheaper than dealership, auto shop/alarm installation and dealership if it comes down to it. Do I need to go to the dealership for a new key cylinder, and will that require a different key?
I will pull off door panels soon and update with what I find broken or loose...

I'm not the most qualified person to chime in here, but that should be your first move. You really won't know what you need until the door panels are off. You might find the rod has disconnected from the key cylinder, assuming the key turns. I'd also be prepared to spray some lubricant on all the moving parts once you determine everything is there and properly connected.

After lubricating all the moving parts, especially the latches, try operating the latches (where the open and lock rods connect). There's a small spring inside the latch that can break and get in the way of the moving parts. The parts should all move freely with little-to-no effort.

Personally I've encountered stuck key tumblers, broken latches, broken/weak lock actuators, disconnected rods, broken exterior door handle springs, broken exterior door handles, broken interior door handles, missing lock retainer clips and other parts. There's a lot going on inside a door, but it's all pretty simple.
