Was driving down the road w/a buddy yesterday and my locks started going off repetively by themselves. After getting back to the shop and listening to my buddy laughing histerically, it continues even after I pull the key out? I was worried about it slowly killing the battery, but after sitting for a bit it stops.

I have had nothing but problems with the doors on this truck, from the windows to the locks themselves. Thanks to this awesome site I finally got the keypad code and was able to turn off the autolock feature when driving. I enjoyed 3 or 4 days of trouble free entry until this...Any thoughts?

Thanks
Josh

My friends 98 Ford van did that. Random times the doors would unlock, interior lights would come on, doors would lock, lights go off and got progressively more frequent. After calling a priest for an exorcism failed, he replaced the RAP module and fixed it.

Forgive my ignorance, but whats a RAP and where can it be found on a 98 EX?

Remote Alarm Personality module. Inside the drivers side rear interior quarter panel. You can remove the cover and see the module - usually white. It also has a sticker with the door keypad code on it. I belive the only way to test it is with the dealers NGS tester.

well... I wouldn't go so fast with the "buy a rap" solution. You can "test" it in a round about way just by unplugging it and see if your problem goes away. Odds are that it won't .... :-( lots of posts in the area (locks working, not working, etc), wiring is your likely cause... just my guess with the "limited" testing that you have done so far. Having said that, as you figure, IF the problem continues to happen while your truck is unattended, you may kill your battery OR more likely loose a locking actuator or two.

Anyways, the next time it happens, I would pull the plug on the rap and see the result. good luck... maybe it will never happen again... :-)

Thanks bud.
While I've been so busy I havent had an oppurtunity to fool with it, I did pull the fuse yesterday to at least stop it temporarily. Weird thing, and I dont know if this is related or not, but driving home the other night I notice my voltage gauge and oil pressure gauge would go crazy when I turned the turn signals on, and my lights would dim? Nothing else would make it do that other than my turn sigs. After a day of that I have no turn signals, the fuse isnt blown either.

I'm thinking it could be a bad ground somewhere?

Thanks for any input as this is getting frustrating. I'm no mechanic, but usually manage to fix stuff when it breaks to save a buck. I'm thinking I may have to bite the bullet and pay a pro.

sounds like it might have already done a "tune" on your battery / charging system. Anyways, if the problem is easily reproducable, do the "test" that I suggested.... the outcome will quickly point you to your answer... maybe. Its your money and time though. Good luck.
