Hi all, the drivers side door on my 2000 Explorer won't unlock. All the other doors unlock in the normal way with the central locking. In addition when I want to get out the car I have to give the door handle a pretty hard heave to get the door to unlock.
Right at the end of the travel of the door handle I feel a connection and if I heave hard enough(!) the door opens.
Any ideas?
thanks in advance,
Dan

Replace the latch in the door. Takes about 2-3 hours and costs about $35-$40.

Ok, any good ideas where to get the door latch from?
The lock only sticks after the car has been driven. On the drive it locks/unlocks opens/closes freely.
Weird!
cheers
Dan

I would have no idea where to get it from across the pond... Maybe ford parts network.

Hi Dan,
I don't know if this would help you, I had the EXACT same problem. I found a thread about how to take the whole thing apart, did that, hit every joint with wd40, and put it back together, and it has worked fine for another year now. I honestly didn't think that was going to fix it, I was just putting it back together, but it worked! The thread mentioned something about finding a broken part, some sort of spring which I could not find and therefore was just putting it back together.

I have this problem now with my back doors. They are stuck in the position where you are pulling the door handle to get out the vehicle. I was told it is probabaly some springs that have gone bad and need to be replaced.Does anyone know if i can do this myself b/c i am not an auto guru or will i have to put it in the shop? If so how much does it cost to repair?
