Ok, the last thing I need to decide on before starting my install in a week or two are the door speakers. I have gone to a few shops and have heard a few nice things. Infinity sounded ok, as did polk. Pioneer didn't sound quite as good, and the sonys i heard were not bad, but who can say with floor models anyway. Now, I would like to know a few things from yall, based on experience if possible.

1) I am going with coaxials, components don't fit my budget too well. Yall know the explorer size for speakers and so I am wondering which you guys would recomend, that you have used before. I am looking for sound clarity mainly (got subs for the loud part, and my hu has a low/high pass filter so they should not be getting too much bass). Whats your favorite speaker?

2) 2-way v. 3-way? I heard some 2-ways at the stores that sounded as good or better as some 3-ways. Whats the primary purpose of 3-ways over 2's? Are they generally better as a rule of thumb or is it a flip of the coin? Once again, favorite 3-way model vs favorite 2-way model.

My budget for these is kinda small. I am only gonna do the front doors for now, and prolly do the others later this summer. I don't want to spend more then 80ish for the pair. I would prefer to buy from crutchfield, but if you know of better sites by all means tell me (i will buy from crutch over best buy any day). Thanks all, I always love the help i get from you guys.

Crutchfield is overpriced from what I've seen, try look at sounddomain or the zeb, both offer great service and have better prices.

For the speakers I had the pioneer 2 way 6x8's in the front and they did well running off the pioneer HU. I'd also look at the Infinity Kappa 572.5cf - I heard these and they are really nice but sounddomain has them for $120 so they are out of your budget.

2 way vs. 3 ways - doesn't really matter in this range - most of the 3 ways just add a super tweeter which you don't need, I couldn't hear a difference between pioneer 2 way and 3 ways. For components it is different, some 3 ways have a 6 1/2" speaker, a 4" speakers and a 1" tweeter and those do sound good.

for what its worth. i spent 79.99 at best buy for my pioneer 3 way speakers. IMO they are the best sounding speaker for that kind of money. I have only done my fronts so far and will do my rears in about 2 weeks. i am going to buy the same for the rears. i also have 2 rockford 15" subs boomin in the back too, so i am happy for now. although i have been looking at in dash flip out DVD player........

do speakers that can channel more power sound crappy with less power as compaired with lower power speakers with the same power?

cause some that i see are like 40 watts rms, but others are up near 100, will that rating change the quality of the sound?

a hint on buying

I use ebay.com and buy from wholesalers, you can get some crazy deals

or

use onlinecarstereo.com their prices are extremely good... equivalent to thezeb.com, but with more of a selection

good luck

Yeah...I bought from onlinecarstereo.com. I have the Pioneer 4-Way 6x8's in all 4 doors, and I paid about 53 a pair...and I am not upset with them at all. I would of rather of had some Components, but they can come later. I just wanted better than stock. I am happy with the 4-Way's.
