Hello Everybody,
I got my 99' explorer XLT last winter and finally dropped in all my old stereo gear from it. I replaced all the door speakers and head unit, and installed my amp and subwoofers. It sounds pretty sweet... .when it works.
Here's the issue. All of the door speakers often don't work at all, but the head unit works fine and I can hear it still sending signal to the pre-out's because the subwoofers work. The issue came and went a few times so I assumed it was a problem with the deck, but when I replaced the deck and wired in a new one the issue still persists! I was taking a victory cruise last night (with all speakers working great) and when i hit a big bump in the highway the door speakers died again. 10 minutes later it worked... and then this morning it didn't... you get the idea.
I'm going nuts trying to figure out what the issue is here. I'm nearly certain all my wiring is correct, especially after being done twice, and the fact that the deck is powered must mean it isn't a ground issue. What on earth could be stopping the door speakers from working?
Could this have something to do with the ford factory amp? I read that a 99 explorer had the amp built into the receiver so i didn't need to do any tricky bypasses etc. The wire harness I bought hooks up to the smaller of the two cables behind the deck. But if it has somethign to do with the amp why would it work sometimes and not others?
I'm running out of ideas, I hope some of you explorer pro's can help.
thanks in advance!
