You guys got me through my wheel bearing issue, let's see what you got here.
01 Sport Trac door ajar light (and interior lights) intermittently stay on. Might be a few minutes, might be a few days and it just goes off. I believe the problem is the l/r door, but I can't find a switch/sensor at any of the 4 doors. What triggers that light?
Also.... I have a PO 442 code. Most likely cause is said to be the "Vapor Control Valve". I can't find it, but I suspect it might be at the charcoal canister. I have to drop the spare tire to see that, and that's a problem I don't want to deal with if I can help it.
If that's where it is, I'll drop the spare, I just don't want to drop it if I don't have to.

3 things
1 you might have a broken wire in the door harness inside the boot. you will have to slide it back and look in there for broken wires
2 inside the door, look in at the latch itself (might have to pull off the window guide to see it better). there is a ground wire going to it, the wire, or tab is goes to might be broken
3 there is also a black part (kinda hard to describe it, but its black) with a one wire connector going to it. that is the switch that tells the truck if the doors are open or not. it has a single Phillips screw holding it onto the door latch. that switch might be bad. the nice thing about that switch is they are on all second gen explorer latches both front, and i think back doors. 2 door, or 4 door, and all first gen sport tracs. go to the wrecker and pull one out of the door latches. you dont even have to take the latch out to put it on, or take it off. you should also have to give it a twist when you remove the screw out from it

the part in red is the switch that i am talking about

I thank you for your reply. I haven't gotten the door panel off yet, but I did spray all four door latch assy's liberally with WD-40. Knowing where the switch is located was a huge help.
Because the problem is intermittent, I'm hoping that the switch hangs up from time to time and will benefit from lubrication.
I'm still looking for that Vapor Control Valve.
