After searching and a good deal of reading up on the subject, I still have a few questions which I would be much obliged if you were able to help me with.

First a wee bit of background:
While driving down the highway, I noticed an orange flash coming from the dash, upon closer inspection it was noticed that this was both the ‘4x4’ and the ‘4x4Low’ lights flashing. They flash 6 times approx every 2-3 minutes. Being a curious sod, I decided to flip the switch to 4x4High just to check the operation, and nothing..nadda won’t engage 4x High or Low. It was raining pretty good so I figured I would check the Auto sensing mode by getting on the loud pedal from a dead stop, and it’s still functional.
So as soon as I arrive at work (while waiting to have my f*cking windshield replaced-bad few days eh) I hit the board archives and started searching.

So far I’ve read that the six flashes of the 4x4 lights indicate code P01836-intermittent problem with the front shaft speed sensor (not sure if this is accurate). So, if this is the case, would somebody please provide me with a replacement part number so I can get this taken care of. Also anybody have any pics of the sensor and or re&re process?

If you feel the code is incorrect and I’m looking in the wrong direction, please feel free to voice other opinions.

Cheers

Is anybody able to verify that six flashes corresponds to this or any other specific code, or is it possible that six flashes is the default sequence for any t-case engagement issues?

Disconnected the neg batt terminal this evening and let her sit for about an hour, reconnected, held breath and started… no flashing lights. Went around the block, engaged 4x4 High and 4x4 low with no problems.
I wonder how long before the dreaded flashing returns. Perhaps the sensor is just beginning to fail?

The sequence of flashes does represent an anomoly with the speed sensors. May not need to replace. Just try cleaning them. One front and back. All they are are little magnets......
