DRILLED AIRBOX PHOTOS !

So.. In canada here, at most we get like +35celcius, would a swiss air box reduce performance then for me in summer?

If you are going to go to all the trouble of drilling those tiny holes, why don't you put in a Ram Air system. I did this to mine and it sounds so sweet, and definitly noticed more power. The cost for the duct tubing and filter was about $60.00. The install took about three hours, but I used one of the hood scoops as a fresh air source.

You have a hood scoop? or just used it for gettin air? And can you use abs pipe instead, since i have a bunch of 3" pipe?

It is functions just like the ram air on the mustang GTs. I have the Lund hood scoops and drilled a hole for the ducting, and attached the ram air (which also contains the filter) to the hood.
Get the flexable ducting as it will coil up when you open and close the hood. The end of the duct goes into a Y pipe so I could use the original air cleaner and duct, and not have to relocate all the sensors. I hooked up an electric valve to the Y pipe so I could open and close it when it rains. This keeps the engine from being hydrolocked.

oook

never mind then lol, too much work for me, and id probably get it plugged with mud

what kinda catback should i get with a 4.0 l

haha this thread is great ! :)

do you have to have a catback for that airbox to work? how much would a k&n intake cost ballpark

A good catback will compliment it to help assist the engine in breathing easier. I chose a Gibson and have been very satisfied with it.

Nope, i dont, and damn does it ever work! I went a bit further and just electrical taped my filter into the top section of the box, then i just took out the bottom, along with some 3" intake pipe, performance muffler, it does real well. Im tryin to get some sound files hosted, doesnt seem to be going well, i have one site that may upload them, ill post the links when its done.

**note a catback would be nicer  **

hey do all explorers hae 4 cat. converters? mine does it has one coming off each side of the manifold then 2 before the muffler. can i take any of thhese off without screwing up the sensors? because i will get better gas mileage and better sound without those on there

I wouldnt know, i have 2, they come from after the two pipes connect, im only suppose to have 1 though :S

Heres my cut airbox:D

I did the air box mod this weekend, along with a drop in K & N filter. Sounds very cool at WOT. Oh and thanks for the write up guys the old lady did not want me to do it but after looking at all the positive posts she let me do it.

My dad loves it, alot better then stock, im just worried about driving when its raining or in mud.

u would have to drive through a severe "puddle" to damage the engine..there would need to be a good amount of water up into the filter..and if u look that isnt really an easy path for water to go through

so when in doubt slow down..just drive through the water slowly and ull be fine

ok, i doubt id get into real serious crap here, but i was really concerned about when its raining and the road is all wet and thres the mist.

2 CAT's or 4?

BigRath04

The two things by the muffler are resonators to reduce exhaust noise, they aren't catalytic converters. Yes you can take them out.
