'02 XL 4x4
Like a million other people on this site I have a powertrain issue. These obviously should have been recalled. None the less its my problem now. I have an '02 with about 120k on it. The 4x4 computer the rear diff and the transfer case(these things were all definatly bad) have all been replaced and I still have a problem. The vehicle shifts into 4wd by pressing the buttons and even automatically. It seems though to be either stuck in between 2wd and 4wd and makes a whining sound when slowing down in both 2wd and 4wd. It whines and then does a boom boom sound like its trying to engage some sorta gear but isnt timed properly or is slipping out. Also the puzzling thing is it stops completely as long as I unplug the 4x4 computer(which I bought from the dealer and have double checked to make sure its the proper one). The computer I am reffering to is the one behing the glove box in the cab. I know there is a shifter motor. Is there a possibility it is attempting to shift into 4x4 all the time because a computer is telling it to?? For some reason thinking the wheels are slipping. I'm at a wall. The other thing I am not sure of is I have seen similar things happen because a bad automatic hub. Are any of these year models equiped with auto hubs? Please Help.
Thanks Tyler
