Driver door lock intermittent problem. sometimes good. sometimes not. seems to be when the door is open (any amount). thinking problem with the wireing near the hinge. driverdoor only. the switch on the door still actuates all the locks, just not the driver door. it will frequently go back into function when the door is closed. does not matter which lock button is hit.

First thing to look for is an empty hole on the metal face of the door about 6 inches below the latch mechanism. If you see an empty hole, the head of the rivet that used to be there is gone. That rivet anchors the electric lock actuator. The first one I did took me a couple of hours. The second took me less than 1/2 hour. I tried doing some of the things suggested by others on this forum without much success. If you have the empty hole, come back and post and I'll tell you some things to make it go a little easier. A new rivet from Ford is about a buck, finding a rivet gun that will pull it, is another matter. I did wind up using a 1/4" stainless screw and a stainless ny-lok nut. Getting that nut in position requires a strip of electrical tape to tape the nut on the bracket before re-installing the actuator.

mine started that stuff and I oiled the latch mechanism ON THE DOOR where it hits the post on the body and it was great from then on.......the latch on the door just needed some lube.....

I'll watch this, since my dads 00 XLT has a lock issue too.
