My GF's 94 started having problems with the drivers door lock a couple weeks ago. The door handles and door locks work great, with the exception that when you use the outside door handle, it locks the door, luckily I haven't locked myself out yet!!

If you exit the vehicle and shut the door, it is unlocked as it should be. Then upon reentry, you lift up the outside handle, open the door, and as you release the outside handle, the door locks on it's own. I have disconnected the battery and tried it, and it still does it, ruling out an electrical issue. It is basically the exact opposite of what happens when you pull the inside handle with a locked door, and I am wondering if the latch is the culprit. I have not removed the panel yet, will probably get to it next weekend, but thought I would throw it out to ya and see if anyone had an idea????

I believe by design..all the first gens do that...at least my 94 does on both doors...and it's manual locks so i can tell ya it's not an electrical issue. I've replaced my drivers side lock mechanism too for other problems...it's not that either. they were designed that way...no friggin idea why...I'm use to it now...by habit any time i open from outside, muscle memory kicks in and the other hand pulls up on the lock. I put a hide-a-key unda mine..cause trust me you'll lock the keys in many many times. Leave a window down when working on yr truck...makes things easier.
I believe there is a way to disengage it by holding the lock with hand, and turning the key a certain direction, but that only works till the next time you go to unlock and forget and turn the key back the otherway re-engaging the autolock.

So after 130,000 miles, this problem just appears???? The passenger side and rear doors do not exhibit this problem???

No one else has any ideas???
