Driver door locks itself

The drivers door on the 97 Explorer locks it self whenever the door is shut, the little black knob that goes up and down to indicate that the doors are locked or unlocked is loose and goes in by itself, and I'm guessing thats where the problem is. there is no auto lock enabled on the car and it gets annoying having to use the keypad to open the drivers door whenever i leave the car running and close the door.

the latch needs to be replaced. it's $40-50 from the dealer.

Sure? Cause its only that little black knob that tells you if its unlocked or locked. Really want to take care of it myself
