My driver's side door will not lock most of the time via the fob. Every once in a while it actually locks, but most of the time it doesn't. The key lock never works (it just spins). It seems like the rod is bent or something since it works every once in a while. Any ideas? I'd like to fix it myself if possible.

If your door's key lock cylinder is spinning, it's in need of replacement. It shouldn't do that whether the link rod is connected to it or not.

You didn't mention whether the door panel lock switch will lock/unlock it. I had a problem with neither the fob nor the door switch consistently locking/unlocking the door. I'd lube the latch, play with the lock and it would work sometimes. Finally, looked more closely inside the latch and the small spring (many threads on here regarding the problem with this small spring breaking) had broken and was jammed inside...causing the rod to bind. Replaced the latch and everything is good. You can inspect that spring without having to remove the inner door panel, btw.
