The driver's seat in my '99 Explorer needs to be replaced.

The mechanism which allows it to recline and fold forward is toast. The local Ford dealer said they can no longer get them (and, the last time they could get them they were about $1,100.00).

Is there a good after-market source for seats? Is it possible to swap out just the mechanism itself? There's nothing powered about the seat at all. I'd prefer not to go to a bone yard, so I'm searching for other options.

Any help is appreciated!

$1,100? Haha you could get a few sets of seats for that. I would look on craigslist to find someone selling seats locally or parting out their explorer. I'd hit up the junkyard also unless its inconvenient for you.

As others have said, replacing the mechanism itself is cheaper than the whole seat. If you're truly determined on replacing the whole seat you can try a JY.
