If you have a 97-01 5.0 AWD, the driveshafts are unique, and none of the V6 4wd driveshafts fit. Not even any of the parts store replacements fit. (napa, autozone, advance) I learned this the hard way recently. V8's have a short driveshaft that is 23" weld to weld. The V6 shafts are either 24" or 27-something.

Im lookin at it on ebay and it says its out of a 99 V8 5.0 but it says 4x4? So that will not work? I emailed the guy to ask him the length 3 days ago and he never replied.

If its a 5.0 its AWD. 4x4 was never offered stock on 5.0's.

Exactly, the key is the engine. The driveshaft matches the engine/transmission.
BTW, there is the option of a custom shaft with two ujoints and a slip yoke. It reportedly has an inherent vibration though. I'd like someone to try a double cardon joint in that type of shaft. Good luck,

OH NO NO NO NO NO NO>> NO This could be bad bad bad. I replaced my front shaft. Started off that I for sure had one too long. Took it back to the shaft shop got a shorter one. Fit in fine as far as size went, however, very soon there after, my front end started banging under my feet. ****, though the freaking shaft fit my awd 98 mounty, it is possible that it wasn't the right shaft and could be causing my bang bang hell? I would have to get a specific 98 mounty shaft or ? GRRR kinda confused and angry at the moment...

Slide under your vehicle and check the driveshaft out -- check if its still connected (;)) and if so, check it for any play.

Yeah thats what mine is doing to stattikk, sounds like its about to come through my floor. Well anyways to late I already ordered that driveshaft I am still hoping that maybe it will fit.
