Is my '97 Sport supposed to have them?

Do you have them or not? You're not supposed to have for any particular reason, unless you live in Canada or they are an option on your vehicle.

Alright, that's a fair question. I don't know if I do or not. If I do, they don't currently work. Is there a way to tell if I do have them and they are not functioning?

Alright! :) Now I got it... the easiest way is to call the dealership (parts dept) and run your vin by them. They will tell you...

If you want add DRLs, aftermarket kits are very inexpensive...

Thanks for the info. I'll do that in the am.

You can enter your VIN here: http://www.motorcraft.com/catalog.do?goto=vin

If you have DRLs, you would most likely have a module plugged in to a harness on the radiator support, behind the driver's headlight. If you want to add DRLs, you can purchase this module from the Ford dealer and install it yourself. It's pretty simple.

Beware, however, that not most--but definitely not all--Explorers have this DRL connector. In that case you have to order the DRL kit (either from Ford or elsewhere) and wire it into the vehicle's harness yourself (or have it installed). Don't buy anything until you're sure which one you need.

Typically, Ford vehicles sold in the US are not equipped with DRLs. They are usually only added if a previous owner requested them, or if it was once a fleet vehicle that was ordered with the DRL option, as it is popular with corporate vehicles.
