I am shopping for Drop I-beams, and I just need to confirm that I need to purchase ones specified for a 1989-92 Ranger for my 1992 X 2WD. I am going to combine a 3" I-beam drop, with a 2" drop coil.

I also found some 5" Drop blocks for the rear. These are 'extruded', and not cast. These even have a lifetime warranty against breakage, which is common on the cast ones. I am planning on buying them, if they'll work. Any ideas as to why they wouldn't?

This combination would give me a 5"/5" drop, correct?

wow.... thats is going to be slammed... it should work, however, the front beams may interfere with the oil pan, but im not exactly sure if the dropped beams compensate for that.. i htink it should be ok... your camber will be majorly off and you will need an alignment after at the least...some drops, have that problem taken care of though

I have a fairly good understanding of the I-beam Suspension system. Although, I don't know why Ford held onto it for so long. There are other suspension systems that are both superior, and less complicated.....

The Drop I-beams are specifically designed NOT to interfere with oil pan.

i know when i lowered my b2 i bought i beams from a ranger .... they did not fit .... the points of attachment are a little different and they would not work ... so i bought the whole front clip including the suspension off of a ranger of the same year .... i had to install the ranger engine crossmember so that i could lower it .... later i bought dropped i beams to lower it even more ... i remember back in the early 90's one of the truckin mags dropped an explorer and they had to modify the front crossmember to lower it ....

Has anyone been able to 'BOLT-ON' a set of Drop I-beams? I see AIM offers a few different I-beams, one is for the Ranger, and another for the B2. Which is a 'closer' fit to bolt onto an X?

Thanks brokenman. I was only looking in the Ranger and B2 listings, ignoring the F-series headings. That is weird that they would list the X's I-beams under the F-series truck heading.

Thanks again,
Ryan

welcome to the streeter party Spdrcer34! especially us lowered 1st gen's! too bad i have 4x4, so i was only able to drop 2 inches. but hey, welcome to the site, and you be sure to get pics, a write up, and videos as soon as you get it lowered!

I have had a 4WD for a few years, and LOVE it. But I was able to score this 2WD for almost nothing, it needs a new engine, or the HG replaced, but it's STILL a good, inexpensive project.

After seeing the mods needed, here are my initial plans:

3" drop I-beams
3" Blocks in the rear
Ltd Grill
Diamond Cut front turn signals (not just the 'clear' ones)
Diamond Cut Front Lamps
Altezza's
Steel Rollpan
Hurst Billet/Plus Shifter
EE Front Bumper Cover
BBK Headers
iFab intake
Granatelli or EE MAF/MAS
BBK TB
17" or 18" rims

Then eventually I wanna go a full 5" drop all the way around, but I'll have to notch the frame......I have the equipment to do it, but I'm a chicken when it comes to cutting frames and stuff. I know about the rollpan mod that needs to be done, but that's kinda different.

Is there a forum for us guys (and gals?) that like the look of a LOWERED X over a raised one? As it looks like we're outnumbered in these parts!
