Dry start?

Everytime my car has sat for some time or over night when I start it up it sounds for about half a second like a dry start then idles healthy? Its not the 00M12 recall thing because it was happening before and after I installed this kit... Any sugjestions?

What kind of oil filter are you using? Get a good quality filter with a silicone anti-drainback valve. It prevents the oil from draining out of the filter while the truck is sitting. A lower quality filter may be letting the oil drain out while it's sitting, needing to be re-primed every start-up.

I agree with this statement. However, if you have a SOHC V6, the oil filter is vertically mounted with the ports at the top and it should not drain even if you buy a cheap filter.

What weight and type (synthetic or blend) are you using?

it kindda sounds to me like the first signs of the timing chain rattle, cause of the chain original plastic tensiones tht might be worn out. This is if you have the v6 sohc, i have hte exact same situation, but it only happens in cold mornings or if i haven´t use the truck in a few days.

-Yes, its a SOHC and it happens the same time as yours does (only on cold morning or if you havent driven it in awhile) So your sating its the timing chain rattle? Its been happening for around 1-2 years maybe?

might be, mine´s been happening for like 1.2 years, and i´ve had the truck for like 1 year, but it was from an uncle that knows how to mantain and care for cars, so it has alwas had good oil on it, filters, etc. and a couple of mechanics pin pointed the sound to the timing chain issue even before i joined this forum. After searching a bit, i found several posts with the same info, symptoms, solutions etc. Do a search for rattle of death.

Did it start making the sound just after you switched to synthetic oil? I seem to recall that others have reported experiencing the same symptoms after switching. I wonder if the lower viscosity results in increased drainage from worn bearing surfaces. Or maybe it takes longer for the oil pressure to increase to normal after starting when using synthetics. I may wait until I install a pre-oiler before switching to synthetics.
