I was just wonderin if any of u guys have dual exhaust on ur x. I recently mounted my spare tire on my new roof rack to make room for my soon to come duals. What I wanna know is if anyone makes a kit or will I have to get it made custom. Also if any of u have pics or ur duals I would love to see them. Thanks alot.

i dont have any pics but i had mine routed to exit behind the tires, with 2.25" pipe and 12"x 4" chrome tips. there have been a few good discusisons on this.

its always in debate what size is best and how to mount i have had 3 different setups since i left the stock exhaust world. right now is the best performance but not the best sound (good but not best)

Save yourself the money and have the duals done in 2.25". Not only is it a lot cheaper, it works better. The 4.0 (or the 302 you are planning to install) do not flow enough exhaust to benifit from running the larger pipe.

I have duals and still have the spare tire under the Ex. I just bought 2 Flowmaster mufflers and had the muffler shop run the pipes. Check out my pics. I have a link in my sig.

i personally think it is pointless to run dual exhuast on the 4.0 it wasnt designed for it. you loose torque by opening it up that much. plus it wont be as loud as a single exhuast. but if ya have yer heart set on it your going to have to have the exhuast shop custom do it. shouldnt cost anymore then 250. if i were you i would just buy a single flowmaster and have it dump straight outa the muffler. or run it all the way to the back and have them make you a cat-bypass pipe.

I was talkin to the muffler shop and he told me that dynomax makes a better system. Its only a single pipe but he said it guarantyees an 18 horsepower increase. Has anyone used this set-up. I only wanted a dual cause it looks cooler, but I would settle for a single. Thanks again

Then I'd get 2 Dynomax mufflers and have the muffler shop run dual pipes out the back. Thats what I did except I went with Flowmaster. If he says 18 hp with the single, you'll get even more with the dual. DO NOT settle for a single exhaust on the V8 model explorer! Our motor should be making about 275 hp with the GT40 heads, but Ford made a very restrictive exhaust and a very mild cam. Free that exhaust up. I gained torque and horsepower with my setup.

I am about to install either the Borla Cat-back system or the Gibson Cat-back system on my '97 Explorer.

I am wondering if any of you guys have installed it and does it do any good.

Thanks for the imput.

no dual cat back kits available that i could find. it is definitely possible to have a dual pipe setup made and keep the stock spare underneath. from what i have seen it is the skill of the installer to bend the pipes and weld, etc. i have seen some great duals and some work i would be embarrased to have on my vehicle. make sure u see the work of the shop before u have it done. and mr boyle is dead on, dont go any larger than 2.25" with the 4.0.
Cameron is running a dual setup and it is the best sounding 4.0 exhaust i have ever heard. i think he used magna flow mufflers. u can see pictures of his setup at www.noiec.com. click on the members area to see pictures of his truck.

I just installed a borla catback on my sohc three weeks ago. I can't see any power improvement, and i am not to impresed with the sound. i was looking to go with duals before i found a borla. my advice is to go with the duals. I sure would like more info on dual setups for the sport, with the spare tire under the truck. or sound clips.
