Dual Stage intake

I think I heard somewhere that the '00 Sport (and others I'm sure) have a dual-stage intake. Is the dual stage intake vaccum controled like on most vehicles? And if so, has anyone disconnected the vaccum line(s) and wired the manifold flaps open to allow more air flow? Usually this takes away from low end torque, but help out your mid-range power - just wonder if anyone has done this.

The intake manifold opens a secondary runner at about 3000rpms. Gives a little more flow/power up in the higher rpms. Thats all I really know about it.
