my stock speakers are dying and becoming increasingly hissy and less clear at high volumes (the only volumes). Its time for an upgrade.

Ive read that a lot use pioneer speakers. Should I pursue that brand?

All Im looking to do is replace the speakers so I can achieve clarity at high volumes. Also, the primer at the beginning of this forum says the speaker size is 5.5x7.5, but people mention 6x8's. Am I missing something?

Also, what are advantages of an amp? Im probably not going to get one, but would it be worth my while?

thanks for answering. I promise I wont ask anymore dumb questions

most 5x7 and 6x8 speakers should work. I would look at audiobahn speakers, they are pretty good. www.audiobahninc.com I don't know much about pioneer, but i do like audiobahn. Also, I'm planing on getting a component speaker set, and just mounting them onto a piece of wood(or something), and mounting that wood in the door space, so you could probably go that route too.

pioneer makes speakers that are fit for the fords. the 5x7 pioneers will work great for ya! i have 2 sets of them in my X. i would suggest 3ways up front and the 250 watt 2ways for the rear. they're pretty cheap to and you can install them yourself in a little over an hour.
good luck.

The only dumb questions are the ones not asked.

Don't be embarassed man. People here are real cool and they love to help each other out. That is why this site is here for us all to help each other out. You gotta ask to learn man.

I also have the Pioneer speakers. I am very happy with them. Like Dave said , the 6X8 go in with no fuss. Sound very good. You'll eventually want to add a sub and possibly some tweeters depending on your standards and level of expectations. Other wise smack in the Pioneers and you'll be well pleased for the money you spend.

Give serious thought on component speakers; they sound awesome.

Good luck.....

for someone that wants a quick solution on a budget 5x7 or 6x8 are a fine choice. I had 4 6x8 compression horn pioneers in my contour and loved the sound.

components sound better but for a price (and im not talking only dollars)

Maybe you should read and do some research into car audio before you begin your upgrade.

It will be a lot simpler if you understand what you want.

Crutchfield has an excellent installation guide that is FREE.

Good luck.....

hmm that last post didnt read right. I was confused as to the difference between regular and component speakers.

Components are broken up. Low , mid , high , sub.
More costly ( more parts and more amp ) more labor
more cable to run , more places to stuff speakers.
Well worth it if you have high standards for your music listening pleasure. Properly done component systems sound better , period.
Me personally I am gonna add some tweets and upgrade the factory sub and not much beyond that. I have
" better " things to spend my money on.

An example of 5 1/4 inch components....

If you want to go the route of high quality, but unfortunately high price, speakers, look into the Boston Acoustics FS80s. I have two sets of those and I love them
