1999 Mountaineer AWD
Been doing DYI on family cars and houses for years.

Been using a BMW's for going to Lowes and HD. One can put a 10 foot piece of pipe in a 528 and 8 foot 2x4 in the 740. Thought about a tow hitch for the BMW, to carry 4x8 sheets and tow a stump grinder. Reconsidered, decided to sell the 740i and get a SUV and trailer.

Bought the first vehicle I looked at. after a 10 min inspection and 2 mile test drive, pickup up a real clean 1999 Mountaineer with 200K for $3,000.

First thought - Drives terrible compared to my BMW's.

Second though. It's truck, not crashed, blows cold. Looks like a lucked out with 5.0 and AWD as the system is built proof. Considering a preemptive tranny rebuild.

Welcome to the forum. No, the 2nd Gen Explorer definitely won't drive like your BMW, but I think you'll enjoy the 5.0 and the versatility of the Explorer.

Thanks for joining, it's great to have you here

If the transmission isn't slipping don't mess with it.

The 4R70 can last forever if taken care of reasonably well.

Welcome to the party! I have a 5.0 Mountaineer 1999 AWD and it is a wonderful SUV. bought mine with a little under 150K on it and other than brakes etc.,., it has needed nothing for 35K.

seals are an issue right now, but hey pushing close to 185K and she still purrs and is a beast in the snow.

good luck with it! yeah a Bimmer its not! lol

Welcome.

Drove it today for 30 miles no sign of slippage fluid look clean. If it's not broke ..
