I replaced my rear shocks on my 2000 EB Explorer and the ride is very high and the shocks are basically not working. I did not have the diagnostic equipment to purge the air system before installation. I suspect that the ride setting was on maximum as the old shocks were sagging pretty bad and the dealer told me that they had "adjusted the height". Recently, the dealer told me that the shocks were leaking air, so I decided to replace them myself. I have the following questions. If anyone can shed some light on any of them, I would be grateful:
1) If the height was set at maximum, could it be possible that the shocks are fully extended and basically aren't shocks anymore, but just a spacer?
2) Is there some way to adjust the height of the system without the diagnostic equipment?
3) The Monroe shocks that I used as a replacement said they provided the air leveling feature, but not the "electronic damping feature". Not sure what the damping feature is, but since there are no wires going to the shock, I am assuming this does not apply to this vehicle. Am I correct? Or did I put shocks in my vehicle that leave out a critical feature?
Thanks for your help,
Tony Williams
