UPDATE! (Graph and Video from the Dyno now added)
I still have the EX but not the Ex-wife. At least I got to keep the truck! :)

I installed CAI Version 4.1 and felt I had better performance than before. So as I approached 299k I wanted to get some baseline numbers to compare against future modifications.

I am proud to have an Explorer with almost 300,000 miles on the ORIGINAL engine and transmission and now have had to change my goal to half a million.

Running a my mostly stock Explorer on the Dynojet here are the numbers!

123.77 Max HP
168.79 Max Torque

Best results were in 2nd gear.

I would love to see some numbers from some other First Generation Explorers if anybody else has bothered to take their truck to the Dyno. It seems in 1994 they boosted HP to 160 at the engine *80% = 128 HP at the wheels.
So I'm damn close to factory specs even after 299K miles!

The Explorer is a damn good truck! :salute:

Pics, Printout and a video to come!

I wish I would have dyno'd our X over the years.. Would have loved to know how it was at 100,200,300 and 350k miles (rebuilt it at 355k)..

I guess I should do that do the mustang soon.. its already 132k and I'll probably be wondering how its doing and wish I did it on that vehicle too..

Please do post the chart.. and "upload" it to the site. One thing missing is the hp and torque curves for the 1st gen ohv motor.. Its hard to find a pic of it on the 'net..

Graph and Video of Dyno run on a 1st gen Explorer (1994)

Here's the Graph frrom my 5 runs on the Dyno. I reset thr PCM after the first two runs, but dont think there was enough time for the PCM to dial in the last 3.

Here's a video of the first of 5 runs. Yes, it cuts off at the worst possible moment.

Does anybody have the numers for a 1st Gen mostly stock on a dyno?

Damn she is quiet! Being in NJ, they made me fix my truck just to get through inspection. It was the best thing that ever happened to her. :)

I did all the work myself after getting over a dozen failures on my first NJ DMV Inspection test. Down in GA, they only checked Emissions. The tester even let me run HHO during the emmissions test! ;)

So what gear were you in for those pulls? Standard practice is to use your 1:1 gear, which would be third in an auto and fourth in a manual. Otherwise you have torque multiplication taking place which skews the numbers.

We tried 2nd and 3rd. Best HP and torque were in 2nd gear.

I will probably go back to the Dyno after I do a few more mods.

What mods will make a difference in HP and Torque?

I am still running the stock coil and I dont think you can tune the first gens CPU can you?

If it was done in 2nd gear, then the numbers aren't true.....3rd gear gives a 1:1 ratio.
