93 with E4WD. 2699XX miles. Front ring & pinion toast. Gears slip making horrible noise under load. Light throttle is ok. Is there any way to disable the front differential? I disconnected the control module so it won't fully engage (over the normal 30%). Any advice (other than R&R differential) is appreciated. :us: SEMPER FI :salute:

can I remove the front driveshaft?

True, but would the removal of the front drive shaft disable the rest of the drive train?

HI. Sorry for bumping this thread but i've the very same problem. My front differential is busted and changing or repairing it will cost a significant amount of $$$ and i'm in a very tight budget at the moment but i need to move my truck so i ask, can be something like this be performed? Taking appart all of the differential system and somehow dissable the transfer case so it runs only with the rear traction? If the answer is yes how can this be done?

Thanks in advance and hope to find an answer.

You want to convert it to a regular RWD?

Sorry for the late response. Well i'm most interested in block the AED to use it only as RWD. Haven't thouhgt in the full conversion but yeah, that'll be another option too. How can this be done?

Thanks for the response. I'll try to read this thread more regularly.

So.... you just can't dissable the transfer case and leave the rear traccion do the job? Also, you have to modify the front? Can't you just leave the bearing hubs without the differential assembly?

The transfer case divides the power between the front & back, so you will have mechanical parts moving for no reason if you disconnect the front axles. It could be done, but would waste a lot of energy.

Hi. Long time no posting here.

I tested that method of disconnecting the transfer case (the cables that is) and no, it works but like if you're only on first, no power at all. So i'm starting to rebuild my front differential but as far as i go it's kind of hard to found the parts in any junkyard i've looked so far (looks like the EAWD was a rare vehicle here in Mexico), i've quotations for the rest of the parts, bearing, hubs, anything except for the pinion and ring.

Wish me luck, i'll need it.

EDIT: So, as far as i read the front diff. it's a Dana 28 modified? Any other pinion/ring should fit, if yes, which one?
