First of all I'd like to say hello to everyone in here and whoever runs this site, damn fine job. OK now on to my issue.

I've got a '98' sport 4.0 V6 4x4. I have to change the plugs and wires and while I'm sure I could figure out how to do it I'd like to know if anyone has any tips on how to get to the rear plug passenger side without busting a knuckle or tearing half the engine apart? When I first looked under the hood it looked simple enough but now that I'm getting ready to do it that one plug looks like it's going to be a SOB. Any tips would be very appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

Go thru the wheel well and make sure you have some universals..

On my 91 (1st gen) I have a 2" body lift and that makes it easy to get to those plugs, so on your year yopu may want to look ay coming in from the fender well.

Yep... Wheel well is the best bet for that plug. You don't even need to jack up the truck or remove the wheel. I remember the first time I changed the plugs it took me like 3 hours to get it all done. By the time I got rid of the Ex, I could change them in about half an hour.

I have a '99 Sport w/4.0. I think it's the same setup...no? I didn't have any problems with that plug. However, I could just be used to it b/c I've had the plugs out 3 or 4 times in the last couple months. I have a misfire that won't go away. I'm guessing it's the coil pack. Anywho, I got at mine with a regular 1/8" ratchet. I don't think I even used a universal. I think it looks a lot worse than it really is.

I'll be doing the plugs this week and I'll let you know how it works out. Thank you very much for the ideas.

I helped a buddy change plugs & wires on his 99 sport. It was much easier to get that plug from under the truck. I laid underneath, and my buddy handed me the socket from the wheel well.
I had trouble with angles going through the wheel well for that last plug, going from under was NO PROBLEM!!!
Good luck, just take your time!!

I had more problems with other spark plugs than that one and I got at all of them from the top. It's not hard, just have patience.
