I work on Camp Lejeune doing circuit board repairs... So when the display in my 01 Explorer went blank I read about the fixes people were doing on this forum... I took mine apart and removed and cleaned some of the 2W resistors on the power control board, re-installed them, and it has worked like a charm ever since. I saw that some people were charging $50 to $100 for the repair, but since Im new here I figured Id offer a free service to anyone around here who is willing to remove the PC board from their stereo and bring/mail it to me. I will inspect the solder joints and if necessary remove the resistors and any other components that look to have bad solder and re-install them correctly with high quality solder joints.

Im not gonna do this for free forever, I just want to see if there is enough demand for people who want this done. I found a place that sells brand new high heat resistors so I can just replace the crappy OEM ones, but there is a minimum order quantity and I dont want to get em yet until I know they are needed...

Just incase you were wondering- I have a $14,000 soldering station that I work at, which you can see in the pictures. I have been doing this for a couple years now so you dont have to worry about me messing anything up. If you would like me to "try" to fix your display the best I can offer right now is to do the same as I did to mine, at no charge. If it works, good, if not, I can order the parts but it will cost a little bit ($15-20 probably). So if you are interested just message me and we can work out the details.

these are some of the "high heat" 2W resistors that seem to be the problem. It looks like mine had already been replaced at one point, but I removed them again and mounted them higher off the board for better heat dissipation, which is what I will do to your board.
