Some history.I had my oil changed in my 03 Sport trac today. The owner came and said the coolant was really low and they filled it. I had not noticed any temp issues before this, and he said it is possible that the thermostat housing was leaking as they tend to in the sport tracs. They could not find a leak, or any real evidence of it leaking other than a very small drop of moisture at the housing. He said I could replace if I wanted and while at it to replace the upper radiator hose as it had a some rub marks on it to prevent any future problems. I went home and replaced the hose, and the housing I ordered as no one locally had it in stock. Now here is the problem. After I replaced the hose the temp gauge jumps to middle immediately and deems to stays there. Even after cooling down it does the same. DO I have air in the system that I need to purge in get rid of this?, or is it something else I need to look for. Thanks.

You probably need to "burp" the system. Remove the radiator cap when the engine is cold and start the truck. Let it run until the t-stat opens(may take a while when not under pressure) and watch the coolant. During and after the t-stat opens you should see air bubbles and a kind of boiling effect in the coolant. This is the air purging from the system. Also check to make sure while changing that upper hose you didn't inadvertently break or knock one of the coolant temp sensor connectors.
