Two questions. I will be going to the 33" BFG M/T tires and I am going to change my gears to the 4.10 set. I don't have a clue when it comes to gears. I was wanting something middle of the road for quality and price most importantly. Is there a recomended gear manufacture that I should go with or does it even matter? And the second question is if I go with lockers in the future will those same gears need to be replaced? Thanks for helping out a newbe. :)

Welcome to the board sir. You will without a doubt find all the answers here.

On to your question......the gears themselves are cheap. You're looking at about $150 a piece. The killer are the install. This can easly push the price tag up to 800+. Genuine Gears are one of the best manufactures of gear for just about any truck. So I would stick with them. If you are looking to add lockers in the future WAIT on the gears. Get at least a cheap locker now and save on the install part of the job. They won't charge much if anything to put in a locker while they're replacing the gears. If you do it down the line you're looking at about another 500+ for install of the locker. Do it all at once. If you do it down the line though.....no you will not need to replace the old gears.

I have to disagree with leebo ...

Genuine Gears are made in China. They might come with a good warrenty, but the warrenty does not include towing costs and labor to replace them.

Precision Gear (from Reider Racing) are high quality made-in-USA products. These are the gears I just installed, and all my friends use these gears also.

I believe Richmond Gears are high quality also, but I have no personal experience with them.

If you swap in a locker in the future, no the gears do not have to be changed. You do have the additional labor costs, though.

Thanks for the help guys, and the welcome.
I guess I'm in torn as what to do. Also right next to my gap of knowledge of gears sits lockers. I don't even fully understand the pros and cons of them. Like streetablity vs. off-road performance. Is there a write up or something like that to better illuistrate them that I could check out?
Money talks, so I kind of see myself just doing the gears at this point in time. Maybe just install some tow hooks so when I get stuck somebody can pull me out. :)
But on the same token I'm like everyone else. Do it right the first time and just bite the bullet and get the lockers.
So being a daily driver and being in Kansas where a road trip is mandatory to go off-roading would lockers be right for me? Anyways thanks again.

Raceit,
There is a huge section on lockers in the modified exp. forum. It will tell you all you need to know. I hope this helps.
