Hi all. Well to day I changed out my O2 sensors. I have a 1993 explorer and it is a 49 state federal truck so it has only two thankfully
. The one on the passage side was a real bear last time so this time I thought a bit first how to make it a touch easier. This is what I came up with. It should work maybe on others also but that is some thing you will have to try. I can say it will on a 1993 4.0 ohv.
Okay so I did not think it all out as some of it was done because I was changing some other parts also
. Here is how I will do it from now on.
1) Remove the coil pack. gives easy access to the connectors. (makes them easy to see and work on for one person were with the pack you almost need two people one under the truck and one up on the motor bay.)
2) Drop a string or wire down the tranny bell housing to the O2 sensor your working on. (Tying a nut or bolt on it helps to also get it down to were you want it under the truck)
3) Separate the o2 sensor connectors. (if you have trouble with the passage side like I did you can cut that sides wirers at the sensor as I did then up top it is a bit easier to get to, to disconnect.)
4) Remove and install new sensors. ( Passenger side use a swivel and a long long extension it helps.)
5) Tie string on each connector then pull them up and then snap them together.
There easy to get to and see with out the coil pack and the string pulls them right up to you. It now becomes a one man job easily. Time from start to finish was under 35 minutes. This included removing the coil pack and reinstalling it also.(Remember to mark your plug wires so you can return them in there order). good luck and hope this helps some one out. For my self this changes it from a job that’s dreaded to one that’s bearable as it is almost as easy as changing the plugs on the driver side this way.
