I looked in the manual, I searched on here, I searched TRS and found nothing clearly specifying how the flywheel is aligned on the crank. The manual says to mark the alignment for reinstallation, but I turned the old flywheel in as a core today. There is nothing in the "2.9 to 4.0 clutch swap" article on TRS or anywhere else mentioning alignment being necessary.

Is the flywheel neutral balanced so it can go on any which way? Or does it have an offset bolt pattern that is not easy to see like just about all other Ford engines? I took some calipers to the bolt circle and it does not appear to have any offset holes.

when i changed motors in my 1991 i had to swap the flywheels too i slapped it on, bolted it up no issues at all.

Thanks.

I wish The engineers had put in an offset hole just so there would be no uncertainty. :nono:

Good thing you brought this up! Ive been looking at the 4.0 flywheel for 2 days now trying to figure out if there's an alignment or if doesnt really matter at all which way it goes on there.

I slapped mine on also when I did the 4.0L clutch swap on my 2.9L. Seems fine, no vibrations.

I followed suit and there are no weird vibrations. Apparently it does not matter what the flywheel orientation is. Glad we can put that to bed. :)
