Ok, most of you already know I bought a A4LD off ebay and the problems with the shipping and so on. This review is to be based solely on the performance of the trans. I will do a post script on my dealing with DHL and the seller.
Well I've had the tranny in for about a week/100miles now. To this date I admit I am impressed. The old tranny was still working, just not up to factory specs. When I put it in reverse there is no longer a wait for it to slam into gear and shake the whole vehicle. It now slides into reverse nicely enough that sometimes you have to hit the gas to know it's engaged. Doesn't seem like a big deal, but it's so much nicer on a daily basis. Now ther's been some debate on this, but I drive in "D" around town. I used to slam it from "R" to "D", but now come to a complete stop before doing so. In "D" the 1-2 shift almost unnoticable, except for the rpm drop. When going from 2-3 you can feel it, but not much more noticable and extremely smooth. I have to admit I don't use O/D very much.. however I have taken her to the highway just to check it out. O/D engages at exactly the same speed as before and the T/C locks up at exactly the right rpm. Since I don't use O/D I can't say much more, but it works well and I'm happy. I've put a little over 100 miles on it since the install and used roughly 1/4 tank. I can tell gas mileage has increased, some of this can be attributed to the old tranny slipping. However I believe the way the new tranny was built had a lot to do with this. Overall I am extremely satisfied with the new tranny, and would recommend it to a friend.
Now about DHL/Seller. If you've watched my previous thread you know there were problems. I attribute 90% of this to DHL. They lost the 1st T/C and this is a fact. I cannot tell what happened to the 2nd T/C other than it never showed up. The 3rd T/C had a tracking # and showed up... however it was late... thanks again so DHL. When the tranny first arrived not only was the T/C missing, but the pan had been pulled and the filter taken out. Well when the tranny was finally installed it wouldn't shift. Come to find out it was due to dirt getting into the valve body from the lack of filter. Oh yeah, almost forgot... the governor was sticking at first, but a bit of cleaner while pulling the valve body fixed that. Over all I blame 95% of the problems on DHL. The governor accounts for most of the rest of the problems along with trying to commicate over a 4 hr time difference. I can however state that I would do business with seller again and recommend him. Just make sure he doesn't ship via DHL before you orders.
