Egr Help

Ok so I bought a 96 XLT and It had the cel on so I replaced the EGR Valve And DPFE I also Checked all the vaccum lines for leaks and Essentially rebuilt them now there was a yellow line coming off the air intake that when hooked up the cel comes on and the truck runs fine. When I hook up the yellow line at times it runs a little rough i mean so little you can barely even tell and the cel stays off I'm totally stumped anybody have any ideas?

First you say when hooked up it runs fine and the cel comes on. Then you say when hooked up it runs rough and the cel goes off. Which is it? What codes did you get?

Also, is it a 4.0 or 5.0? If it's a 5.0 that year had an internal egr and no dpfe.
