i have a 96 limited AWD v8 explorer tht my uncle gave to me and it was sitting for like 6months. so when i finally got it registered i went to go get it inspceted and half way their the engine light comes on. so when i got their the guy told me he couldnt inspect it and i would need a egr valve. now wht my question is, is this an important part? like will it cause my car to break down or anything? and where is the cheapest place to get it?

Yes, the EGR system is an important part of your car's emission and engine control system.

Whether or not if may cause other problems isn't the point. It's broken now and you need to fix it.

The cheapest place to get one depends on what you need.

You need to get the code(s), diagnose the problem and fix it.

Don't just go throwing parts at it; often EGR "problems" are not EGR at all, many times its the DPFE.

Good luck .....
