When I press the dash button for 4X or lo I get a clicking sound from the rear panel that last awhile before stopping and the t/case does not come out of 4wd, I have had the electric shift assy out and clean and replaced contacts and stops. I have not seen much mentioned about the control module, is there any test to be performed on it?

did you read the Singleton maintenance site? I think the test was on there.

Yes, I have read and reread the postings a couple times I think the problem may be in the transfer case itself, I have spun the shift motor with jumper wires from 2wd to 4wd then put the transmission in neutral and spun it to 4wd low, reversed polarity and spin the motor till it stopped. 2wd? right, so I lock in the hubs and I still have power to the front axle. When the weather clears I am going to pull the shift motor and see if the cam alignment is correct.
