I'm experiencing two problems that I think are un-related, but then again.... who knows?

Intermittently my brake light has been illuminating for no reason (red one, not the amber ABS light). The brake light is routed through the DRL (daytime running light module) and I highly suspect it is this circuit causing the issue, but the problem has been intermittent and every time that it acts up it's been too cold or wet outside to climb under the truck. Whenever the brake light is on, I can get it to turn off by putting on the high beams. This also causes the high beam indicator to fade out from the dash as well. The red light comes back on when I put it back to low beams. I'm not worried about the brake system as everything is fine, but the light is just annoying.

I'm also having a problem at idle when driving. Again, intermittently, the truck will be idling smooth at a stop light (about 800RPM) and the RPMs will suddenly drop to about 500RPM and the engine sounds like it is under light load. I can also hear a relay clicking at the same time. It lasts for about 2 seconds, and I can hear another click and then the RPMs go back up and the idle is smooth.I have a strong suspicion that the air conditioner clutch is cycling (even though the heater is on and it is winter) but it has never done this while I have been at a place that I can put a meter on the clutch wiring.

Has anybody ever run into this before? It sounds like this could be a ground issue, which can be "fun" to track down. Are there any ground paths known to cause issues other than the main cable or the one behind the battery tray?
