I have a '92 Eddie Bauer. I have recently noticed that my engine would occasionaly be racing when in neutral. Stopping the engine and restarting seemed to correct the problem. Also, when driving at highway speeds, I have noticed the engine trying to switch to a lower gear, ie: passing gear, as if the accelerate button on the cruise was being activated.

I also noticed at the same time and also occasionally, that the radio would come on (when turned off) when the brake pedal was activated.

Since the radio and the cruise are on the same fuse, I have removed the fuse. Now, the radio still occasionally comes on when the brake pedal is activated.

It sounds like a short circuit to me, as all are related somewhat. The radio and the cruise via the fuse, and the cruise and the brake via the normal shutoff function of the brake.

My major problem is the engine racing and shifting problems this seems to create.

I know that this sounds very strange. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.:banghead:

When problems occur with different electrical systems at the same time, usual culprit is the General Electronics Module (GEM). Not sure if "92 has it.
