Yesterday, after work, I started up my truck and started on out of the parking lot. I then noticed that nothing was working, the radio, the turn signals, the interior lights, etc. I'm not sure about the brake lights, when I stepped on the brakes, I did hear them clicking in the background. Then I got home, just a few miles away, and all of a sudden, in my driveway everything just turned on. What happened?!

ive had similar problems, my 93 occasionally starts up without the tach. next time its ok my 92 loses the clock/radio display at times gremlins i think

This happened to my wife once in her car and this is what the problem was:
She keeps a TON of stuff on her key ring and I was always telling her that the ignition key switch wasn't made to have all that weight hanging on it all of the time. I also noticed that with all that weight on the key ring, a couple of times there was a pause where the key didn't 'spring' back to the RUN position immediately after starting the car. Lo and behold on the hottest day of the year, she starts the car up and it runs fine but nothing works - windows won't go down, A/C won't come on, radio doesn't work; nothing. She pulls up to the house and leaves it running then calls me out to show me what it's doing. I sit in the driver's seat and rotate the key chain mass back just a hair to where it's fully in the RUN position and everything came on. Now the key chain for her car key consists of just the transmitter and the key and she hasn't had it happen in the four years since that episode.

Anyway, what I'm saying is that you might have had something similar happen to you at that time. It might have been too heavy a key ring set like my wife or a lock cylinder that is getting a little old and worn (or it might be a problem somewhere else). If it happens again, try looking at the key to see that it rotated back fully to the proper position after having started it and see if that corrects the problem.

Good luck.

Sounds Reasonable

I'll take a look next time. It is very possible that it's worn, it's a '92. My key ring is very minimal, just seven keys, but i'm sure that over time, even that takes it's toll. Thanks for your input.

To Gimp,
I just had the same problem happen to my 94 Exp. I also keep alot of keys and etc. on my key chain. I will try what you have suggested and keep you posted. Hopefully this will be an easy fix but I never get off that easy with this vehicle.
