Hi friends,

Last night my Explorer 2012 for the first time, suddenly slowed down the speed and could barely made it to home. There was a light on my dashboard that was identified as the ECM in the owner’s manual. I drove it today and did not happen again. Is there any recall for that failure? What does it make this happen?

Thank you.

What was the light that came ON? Have you had the vehicle checked for a possible trouble code?

Peter

I am so scared that this could hapen again, especially since I travel often from cities. I wonder if there is something that makes this happen, so I can try to avoid it, for example, speed up to X limit or the AC, etc.

I am also wondering if there is a recall or a waranty for this problem. I found somewhere online that there are more vehicles with this same problem.

Any info about this, my friends?

Sometimes an auto parts/supply store will give you a free scan. I've read posts here that mentioned it. I knew what ECM was but posted the link that described pretty much what you experienced. There is no recall on this that I am aware of and not likely any warranty since the Explorer is actually about 10 years old now.

Oh no! So, I must be prepared for that expense.

Now, I think it can only be scan it IF the light is ON, right? It dissapeared but I am affraid it could happen at any time. And so far what I experienced, the car will not go anywhere.

Where can I phisically find this part in my vehicle? In a Explorer 2012?

Once the light comes on it is stored in the ECM even if it goes out.

So a parts store such as Autozone, Advance Auto, and others should be able to connect a reader onto the OBD II port and find out what it is. Then get the code, it should be one letter and 4 numbers such as P1234. You can then do a search for that code on the www or come back here and post what it is.

Look the code up on Google, it will give a description of the CEL.

Hi friends,

I went last night to O'Riellys and Autozone and none of them found any problem from the diagnose they did on my car. The points got "green check-mark". No problems at all. I tried both businesses just in case. I told them what the warning was and they told me that there is no faliure shown from the computer... I am still not that confident.

If that's the case and the parts stores can't find anything and you want to work on your Explores I highly suggest that you look into Forscan for a smartphone and or a laptop along with the ELM 327 Bluetooth adapter to where you can do diagnostics yourself.

Thank you Peterson. Is a Forscan a phisycall tool or is it an app that I use and somehow plug or bluetooth through my phone? Sorry for my ignorance.
