Under Normal circumstances I would search through the forum but I have a 12 hour drive and believe I have blown a fog light fuse...does anyone know what fuse it is under the hood? I took then ballast out and connected to the head light s and they work fine...which tells me it has to be a fuse... Please. Help asap

I have an '02 so this info may not be correct for your '04. If you don't have an owner's manual, Dead Link Removed.

According to my owner's manual, there is a fuse in the passenger compartment fuse box related to the fog lamps. #12 is a 5A fuse for the Fog Lamp Switch, 4x4 Module.

There is a fuse and a relay related to the fog lamps in the power distribution box under the hood. #44 is a 10A fuse for the Front Fog Lamp. #50 is the Fog Lamp Relay.

Hope this helps out! :biggthump

i just had same problem replace the fuse with a 10 instead wont ever happen again. If you use 5 it will just blow out again.

Why are you adding a bigger fuse. If you keep blowing your 5amp fuse then something is wrong. Adding a bigger fuse can hide the the problem until you have an electrical fire.

had hids for awhile then the fuse kept blowing out casue i always have those running the hids,I dont have a relay, my mechanic said to replace fuse with 10 and its been fine ever since i recently got a relay for the hids so i should be fine now. also they said it was an emergency lol so if it keeps blowing out and need for it to stay on for short period then i would say its a quick fix, i needed mine fixed asap as well when i was driving back from upstate and visibility was very poor and needed my fogs to help guide the way

Oo I thought you were running regular lights, HIDS gave my buddy trouble due to the small fuse. I just wouldnt do it on stock lights

Wonder if the OP ever found the fuse or the problem? :dunno:

The whole mess seemed shaky to me - aftermarket lighting with low output, installing higher rated fuses without understanding the problem, needing the fog lights due to poor lighitng output, and trying to find a jury-rig fix in the last seconds before a long drive. I would be very concerned about the overall safety of this line-up.

I didn't see where the OP said anything about aftermarket lighting or overfusing a circuit. I read it as he did a test connection to see if the fog lights worked, it didn't say he wired them to the headlghts. I use my fog lights all the time too. My eyes are getting older, night vision isn't what it was when I was younger and I really like to see the road.

he states the use of HID aftermarket lights (the cheap ones of which suck and put out insufficient light and have been known to screw up car electrical systems), and it was recommended by someone that the solution was to overfuse the lights. Not good.

Okay reread it was fedyfez who installed the HIDS and overfused. Now I'm wondering about him.

However, I am pretty sure all the wiring for lights is pulled from the same spool and is gonna handle 10A. But you are correct in that if a problem develops and you just increase the fuse rating, you are looking for problems.

In my old age I have become very adverse to jury-rigged solutions, for sure. I don't find the adventure in being stranded that much fun anymore.

True that. Being "Stranded" when 17 with your girl was a whole lot more fun than being 50-something and being stranded ;)

I have to agree with you guys there!

As we all know, well some of us anyway, putting in a higher rated fuse because the correct fuse keeps blowing is insane!!! :fire:

hahaha

The thrill began to fade for me when, on the day after we married (30+ years ago), the first day of our honeymoon, the old Fiat (I know, no need to say it) died in the middle of the Sonoran desert as the sun was setting and the number of cars going by dropped to zero, miles from anything that could be called civilization.

"Welcome to our first full day together baby":thumbdwn:

Yeah, it seems when we were younger nothing mattered. Now we are paranoid that something will happen. I start to panic when the gas gauge gets below 1/4. When I was a kid running out of gas was half the fun of having a car!

That's why we have kids, so they can take over the 'fun' where we left off.:D
