My check engine light has been coming on periodically. My gas mileage has gone in the toliet. About 120 to the tank (apx. 15gal). I thought it was my O2 sensor, so I replaced it. The problem persists. Runs horrible when it's cold and not bad when warm, just really bad gas mileage. Also you can feel it lug going up hill at 65mph. The exhaust is visible and appearse to be running really rich. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

120 miles to the tank? Geez something has to be really amiss. No doubt she's running rich. Do you have a Haynes manual and a voltmeter? If so, you can easily run the codes on your truck to see what the computer says is wrong.

Check the fuel pressure regulator.

I agree with 88vert. Another thing to check (if you haven't already) is the air filter.

re: emission problems

Thanks for the response!

I have a Chilton's manual, but it doesn't help me out in the least. In the Haynes manual it tells you what the Ford factor codes are? And a voltmeter will read those codes?
I checked the air filter and it's fine, it was replace less than a year ago.
About the fuel pressure regulator, I'll have to look at my inferior manual for instruction.

Something also came up last night, my pushbutton 4x4 won't engage. I press the 4x4 button, the battery gauge drops like it's trying to engage, but no 4x4. This has happened in the past, but worked eventually, both on engage and disengage.

Thanks

fuel pressure regulator cont.

Got the new o2 sensor in and the problem persists. We now have moved onto the fuel pressure regulator. I believe I may have the wrong part. I bought the Sorensen ome part#91TF-AA because it was the one instock at my autozone. In checking the the Sorensen website and autozone's. They list another part, an #90TF-AA which is for Rangers. Now I'm thinking to myself, how can they be different aren't the motors the same. 4.0L.

When I go to install the new regulator it doesn't seem to fit right in to the fuel rail. Like I'm missing a Gasket. If anyone has a pic of the two different regulators to compare differences, I'd greatly appreciate it. Any suggestions or comment are also welcome. Thanks

Ken
