The vehicle is a stock 2003 Ford Explorer Sport.
The engine acts like it is rev limited at 3000 rpm in drive gears.
For example, I do a full throttle acceleration from a stop on level ground. The truck accelerates until the rpm reaches a bit over 3000 and the speed is abouty 45 mph and stays there until I let up on the throttle. Only then will it downshift.
My service manual tells me that the shift point at full throttle is 5000-5500 rpm, so the engine simply isn't reaching it.
Below 3000 rpm the engine runs normally and appears to have normal power. It idles smoothly and there are no trouble code for either the engine or the transmission.
I'd appreciate any help I can get on how to diagnose this problem.
Thanks,
