This weekend I was thinking about cleaning my engine with Engine Brite...Was wondering if it is a big pain in the ass to do,And how much of the engine needs to be covered.Would plastic shopping bags and electrical tape work to keep everything dry?I'd really like to do this just alittle nervous.

I was nervous when I did mine too. I started it right after I did it and it ran fine and I drove it around for 20 minutes and then let it sit for 3 hours and when I went back out the battery was totally dead. I charged it up and it started and worked fine for the next 2 weeks until I washed the truck again. I didnt even have the hood open when I washed it. It did the same exact thing... dead battery in 3 hours. I'm never using that stuff again.

Thanx for the insight...Guess I'll forget about that idea,I'll stick to washing the outside

Don't give up so quickly. My father always say "A clean engine is a happy engine" or something of that sort...

Anyway, when I do mine I just spray like there is no tomorrow and I never had problems.

Just a few things to remember:
1. Do not wet the engine if its hot- it'll crack.
2. Start it right away and drive around for 5 minutes until everything is all dried up.
3. Some plastic parts may have to be Armor-All-ed because they will be too dry and dull.

Good Luck!

I generally cover the air intake, distributor, battery, and alternator with a plastic grocery bag before I start. I have never used the engine brite, just a hose. Armor-all on the dulled plastic parts helps the engine look 10x cleaner and newer.

No worries!

If you do what was mentioned above. You won't have any problems. I clean my engine all the time and have never had an issue. A plastic garbage bag works fine for the coil pack, battery, distribtion box, ect.... Just cover the commen sense areas and you be fine.

Happy Cleaning
