engine dies with air on ????/ fixed.

well the engine dies after driving for awhile during the day with the air on, it will just lose power and then die. I can let it sit for a little while, then it will be okay for a little while with the ac on then do it all over agiain. i can drive all day long without the ac and have no problems. i've checked the guages when this is happening and oil, charging and temp are all fine. i just recently put another motor in which included all the sensors and accessories, but i was having the same problems with the old engine and sensors
i just recently put a new fuel filter and pump, so i'm thinking it can't be a sensor attached to the engine since there all different. man it sucks to get stuck on the road in 100 degree temps with the kids and wife but i cant seem to find out what is causing this. any ideas??? also there are no codes.

it finally started doing it with the ac off also

mine used to die on startup if you had the air on. it would start, idle down, and die. i did new plugs and wires and it helped but still did it some times. then, i used splitfire wires and changed to a synthetic blend oil...no more problems. it was like it just ran a little too rough. oh, and i also added a KKM which helped idle. the fuel filter was the first thing i did but didnt help.

other ideas? serpentine belt or alt...maybe there is too much drain and not enough power. (i know it sounds stupid, but just first thing that came to mind).

other ideas, maybe your a/c is freezing up due to lack of lube. when you recharge your a/c, most people just buy the cheap can of refirgerant...they dont think to buy the can with some a/c oil. drain off a little and add some oil to the system, might not be as cool, but its just a thought.

ya i thought maybe the ac was low to, it was so i added some refirgerant with oil but its still doing it . i also thought is was the alt but the guage shows its fine ( and we all know those guages are extremely accurate  ) but i'll have to double check the alt
i changed the plugs but not the wires didn't really think that would cause this but you never know i'll check them.

thanks for the reply udmsvt

any other ideas ???

run a tank of premium through it...thats about all i got. unless there is a short in the blower motor and it surges the whole truck, but i doubt it. have that alt checked out and inspect the serp belt. if its work, the heat of running may be causing it to slip...they're cheap anyways.

eveyy few days, i through all the threads with 0 replies and if i think i may be of service, i pipe in. i learn quite a bit that way. sounds dumb, but check your batt terminals too...make sure they're on tight.

when you A/C comes on the PCM (computer) adds idle rpms via the Idle Air Controller (IAC) to make up for it. If that is not enough, either the IAC is bad, the computer is not making a connection to the IAC correctly or is bad (unlikely) or the load is FAR greater than is programmed (a failing Air Conditioning Compressor). Start with the IAC. Next step is a compressor imminent failure.

well checked the iac and its fine, anymore ideas?? thanks

How is your AC performing when it's on ? Hard to be certain from far away, but I am thinking your compressor is getting difficult to turn, and dying the black death maybe?

Chris

ac is running fine, pretty cold when driving but kinda not so cold when standing still but i figured that was because of the 100 degree temp outside. i'll keep an eye on the compressor and see what its doing.
thanks Glacier991

anything else someone can think of?

Check your battery terminals because i had a similar problem with the AC and i just replaced my factory orginal termals!

okay, well i finally got it fixed
it turned out to be the fuel pump i guess the one i installed before was just defected or something because i changed it out again and now have been running for about 2 or 3 weeks and have not had any problems anymore

so i guess even if you think your fuel pump is running fine and having the same problems i was, may want to double check it.
thanks for everyones help/comments

1994 Ford Ex - 2wd (wifes) 158,000 miles, no engine work EVER except for tuneups and serp belt, 2 brake jobs, radiator replaced twice, tranny flushed a few times, oh darn...I did replace the water pump on it at 145,000

1993 Ford Ex XL 4wd - 190,000 miles NO ENGINE WORK EVER, oil changed every 3K miles, just had transmission serviced and had the vacuum piece replaced.

1994 Ex XL 4wd - 134,000 miles No engine work ever, aside from tuneups and oil changes. Did just have $500 spent on front end and wheel bearing work along with new rotors, pads and brake lines

1992 Ex XLT - Replaced engine around 100K miles.
