Lately, I'm having to either crank the engine for a few seconds to fire up, or press the accelerator.

It used to fire up right away like it's supposed to up until about 2 months ago.

I've tried to let the fuel pump presurize the lines and sometimes this helps, sometimes not.

It runs perfect once fired up. It does this when hot or cold.

I've checked all the vacuum lines. Fixed one with a hole in it that goes to the air box, still no difference.

Just before this started happening I had replaced the negative cable that grounds the injectors, they were constantly firing making it run excessivly rich.

i have had the exact same problem with my 94 it got so bad that it would not catch it is in the shop now so when i get it back in a couple days i will tell you what the mechanic said and fixed (i believe it is the fuel pump) just a hunch

Thanks, I'll be interested in your fix results. I haven't had time to pull the plugs yet, I'm kind of wondering if they could be fouled from running rich back a couple months ago. I thought that that would have burned clean after such a long time. Besides, it runs great once started.

I've got the same issue on my Ranger V8 (Explorer engine/EECV). It comes and goes, usually happens more in warmer weather. If I turn the key, wait a few seconds, turn off, then start it usually fires up.

I have a feeling it is my fuel pump, since sometimes, I read fuel pressure immediately, and other times it take - up to a few- key turns to hit 40psi.

Aside from lack of rail pressure, I am at a loss for the solution. I suppose I will ahve to wait until it gets really bad again to dig into it, but interested in finding out your solutions.

well the mechanic i took it to cant find anything wrong he is the kind of mechanic that cant dighnose for sh** but can fix with the best. he told me to give him another day and tomorrow if he does not find anything wrong i will take it some wheres else ( dam pain ) i am 99% certain it is the fuel pump and it cost 180 and 250 for labor so close to 500 dollar job i will get the problem fixed so keep checking in for a fix to proably all our problems

alright, got my x back today mechanic checked and changed the relays on the fuel pump switch that connects to the computer he said that there was high possibility that that could be the problem. i think the problem is corrected and i also think the engine starts quicker but i could be all in my head i will follow up if i have more trouble. changing the relays set me back $92.87 hope it was worth it.

Dude Im sorry to say, but you got ripped off!!!

I can replace both of those relays in 15 sec. I paid $10 for both of mine from the Ford Dealer in my area.

i cant help it i am in school from 9:00 to 7 or later at night (architecture) i have absolutly no time for messing with my car. it did solve the problem though, if it was a normal summer i would have done it my self but theres nothing i can do about it now. thanks, for the heads up i will be more apt to investigating problems with my haynes manual
