Engine knock

Having a problem with an engine knock. On start up and also when you floor it, you can hear what sounds like incorrect timing on my 63' impala ( easiest way to put it). The dealership said when I change my oil to use a factory oil filter because the oil is draining to the bottom of the pan and was taking to long to recirculate. Some one else told me to clean my mass airflow sensor but didnt know how to do it or where it was...

Is your engine pinging? If so it could be timing chain and tensioner. It sounds like the same problem I had before I repaired it. If this is the case, depending on how mechanically inclined you are, it can be a big job.


By the way, your MAF is connected to your airbox (it has a plug with a bunch of wires going to it).
