I have a 2006 v8 with 145,000 miles. Recently noticed that in stop & go traffic, between 30 & 45 or so, it runs very rough & I can actually watch the tach see the rpms jump up & down. I had the plugs & fuel filter changed, which helped, but the cut outs are still there. I have never changed the plug wires & was thinking of doing that. I really don't want to spend much on the vehicle as I want to trade for a new one soon. Any ideas

The v8 does not have any plug wires it is a coil on plug style, the coil for the plug sits right on top of the plug, where the v6 has a coil pack, sits on the top front of the motor, and has wires running to each plug. Where I would start is with a obd2 scanner and scan for codes if nothing then, if you have access to a scanner that will do mode 6 data, then you could look at the missfire counts on each cylinder to see if it is a missfire causing the rough running. The other thing to check is the fuel rail pressure ,some obd2 scanners can read the fuel rail pressure sensor.

Is the ac running when this happens? And you said it happens while driving what about at idle?

it happens with & without the ac & with & without overdrive engaged

I don't have a scanner........guess I will have to take it to a shop for that

Go to your local autoparts store they can scan for codes usually for free.

If they installed aftermarket coils, that may be the issue as well.

I took it to a shop........they said there were no codes........said it was transmission
talked to a dealer he said coils.........so who do I believe
there are no check engine lights on

Sounds like the Triton COPs are failing.

I have the same problem, It reduce when I add inyector cleaner on the tank, so I guess it need some mayor cleaning

fuel injector cleaner did not help me at all

I say you have a coil going bad. Check the back cylinders on each side for water intrusion. It likes to run off the cowl and go into the rear plug holes.
