I know this is a explorer forum but I've sold my explorer and have been unable to find a forum that is better than this for the ranger, plus i think they share they same engine. When I start the 4.0 engine in my 2000 ford ranger xlt. It seems to miss for the first second or so. Afterwards it runs fine and has all the power it has ever had. It also did this before until recently it would miss all the time so I replaced the spark plugs. I just replaced the plugs and wires on july 4th so I doubt that they would be the cause of this problem. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas what this could be? Thank you

I think I would move on to cleaning the idle air control valve and the mass air flow sensor. Disconnect the negative post on your battery while you clean them (at least 15 minutes)- this will clear the computers "learned" information, and when you restart it will be at factory default settings.

Lots of instructions on this site - just use the search button.

If that does not work, post back!
