engine noise after overheating

hi, yesterday my 2001 4.0l sohc explorer overheating,cause termostat was leaking,the engine stop when get the high temp,after that i leave it rest and when it was cold, add water and start engine again, its start but now, there is a noise inside the engine, do i have to overhaul the engine?, what other reason could be this noise?

you cut it off when it got hot? or it cut off when it got hot?

it cut off when got hot,after that i turn on the engine again because was stuck in the middle of the route and ride it for 15 min maybe until get a gas station..
